American Football Federation commissioner, Maxwell Warren indicted on tax evasion

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Oct. 18, 2019)- The American Football Federation’s (AFF) commissioner, Maxwell Warren, has been indicted on tax evasion charges by the federal grand jury.

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, the federal grand jury handed up Warren’s indictment at his home in downtown Birmingham. Commissioner Warren resigned the following morning.

The indictment covers six years of tax evasion and over $4 million owed to the state. The family asked there be no contact for questions during this time.

“The league is devastated by the news of former Commissioner Warren. I speak for everyone when I say we do hope the best for him and his family,” said executive committee member, Paul Moran.

The league is in search of its next commissioner. There is an interim commissioner until the search is complete.

“We are pleased to announce the interim commissioner is AFF vice president, Beau Bates,” said Moran.  

Beau Bates is an AFF hall of Famer and served under Warren as vice president of the AFF since 2016.

“I am honored to be elected as the interim commissioner for the AFF. I vow to do everything in my power to keep the league respected and running how it should,” said interim commissioner Beau Bates.
